01 — Why a Specialist Yard

TSHD specialist yard construction

A specialist team dedicated to TSHD construction.

A TSHD is not a hull with a pump bolted on. Hopper form, drag-arm loads, overflow systems, bottom doors and dredge layout determine operating efficiency and continuous performance in the fairway.

At Southeast Marine, a specialist TSHD team handles design, construction, equipment installation and sea trials.

  • —Only TSHDs on the berth — no mixed ship types
  • —No cutter suction, grab or backhoe package work
  • —No catalogue ships lightly converted and delivered as dredgers

02 — Design Series

Six mainstream hopper configurations.

Select a series by soil type, haul distance and reclamation method. Figures below are nominal design baselines; contract design prevails.

DN-2000 trailing suction hopper dredger 1 / 5
SERIES: DN-2000 ● In-Service / Custom Build

2,000 m³ Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD)

Engineered for shallow-draft coastal maintenance, port channel desilting and land reclamation.

Hopper 2,000 m³
Max dredging depth 22 m
LOA 72 m
Beam 14.5 m
Depth 6.8 m
Discharge distance 1.5 km
Speed 11 kn
Classification CCS / BV / ABS

Single draghead, one inboard pump, bottom doors.

03 — Key Equipment

Dredge, load, transport, discharge.
One vessel does it all.

Built around intelligent dredging and electric propulsion, with hull and systems optimised for TSHDs — dig, load, haul and discharge in one efficient loop.

TSHD details
01

Draghead & drag arm

High-wear materials with draghead and jetting matched to soil type — higher digging efficiency, less wear and longer service life.

02

Dredge pumps

Wear-resistant flow parts; head and efficiency matched to duty — fewer blockages and less excess wear.

03

Intelligent dredging system

AI-assisted intelligent dredging optimises dig, load, haul and discharge in real time — higher output, less idle work.

04

Bow discharge & rainbowing

Pipework designed with the hopper; shore and rainbow modes switch on demand — less rework and downtime.

05

Hull structure

Critical welds X-ray inspected; full-ship strength and tightness built for continuous dredging loads.

06

Propulsion

One-driving-two electric propulsion for higher efficiency, lower energy use and faster response to changing duties.

04 — How a Vessel Is Delivered

From soil samples to loaded trial dredging.

From requirements brief to sea trials, design, construction, equipment installation and trials are completed inside Southeast Marine.

Shipyard construction
01

Requirements brief

Soil type, haul distance, reclamation site, flag state and classification society fixed at the outset so design boundaries are clear.

02

Contract design

Hull lines, hopper, pump curves, drag-arm loads, weights and the crew complement required for this vessel.

03

Class submission

Drawings submitted directly to the classification society you nominate; plan approval and class proceed as specified by the owner.

04

Steelwork

Cutting, block assembly and full hull closure in dock for continuous structure and strength.

05

Equipment installation

Pumps, pipework, hydraulics, bottom doors and dredging systems installed in positions reserved in the steel.

06

Sea trials & delivery

Dock trials, loaded trial dredging and crew familiarisation completed before delivery.

05 — Applications

Channels, reclamation and offshore capital dredging.

Reclamation works

Reclamation

Land creation & sand winning

From borrow area to shoreline. Hopper capacity and discharge distance are the core competitiveness.

Channel maintenance

Maintenance

Channel & basin maintenance

Self-propelled, no anchors. Load, clear the fairway, discharge, then return.

Maintenance dredging

Capital works

Port & channel development

Port expansion and channel capital dredging — matched hopper capacity, completed in one campaign.

06 — Contact
